Rules & Policies

Note To Competitors: Each INDIVIDUAL competitor is limited to EIGHT entries, and may dance two (2) consecutive levels per style, during the weekend. University Team Matches, and Formation Teams are exempt from this restriction.

Syllabus Definitions can be found at http://www.usadance.org/dancesport/form-and-resources/rules-policies-and-bylaws/jpgnqy3puy and we will be following the USA Dance costume rules which can also be found on the USA Dance website. But in brief, while costumes are allowed, they still need to follow the rules for coverage. Please read the dress code rules prior to buying/renting/making/ borrowing etc a costume. There will be costume invigilation at this competition. Please read the rules.

In the Syllabus Paso Doble, International V. Waltz & Bolero events, a couple may dance any syllabus figure from Bronze - Gold, but may not dance any open combination of steps.

Please Register in Advance with the ONLINE FORM. Please read below BEFORE proceeding to ONLINE REGISTRATION

  • PRE-BRONZE COMPETITOR STATUS: Pre-Bronze is recommended for someone who:
    • Does not have more than a year of competitive experience, or
    • Is competing in the particular style of the first time and
    • Basically is doing only steps 1-7 in the Bronze syllabus of the particular style

We will be using the honor system and will not be checking to make sure that you are truly a Pre-Bronze dancer. We trust that you will respect the Pre-Bronze level as a place to encourage dancers who are relatively new to competition &/or the style of dance.

  • UNIVERSITY TEAM MATCH CHAMPIONSHIP: We will be running two team match events: American University Team Match Challenge, and International University Team Match Challenge. There will be four dances in both of these events. A team will consist of four couples, one for each dance. To allow more people a chance to dance, couples should not be the same for both team matches. Couples must meet the eligibility requirements above.

American University Team Match:

  • Foxtrot
  • Viennese Waltz
  • Mambo
  • Bolero

International University Team Match:

  • Cha Cha
  • Jive
  • Waltz
  • Quickstep

Entries: (A) Schools can enter two teams - One Team Entry per Style; (B) Four couples for each Team; (C) Each person can dance only once; (D) A team member may only dance on one team and (E) The number of rounds will be determined by the Chair of Judges.

  • FORMATION TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: Must submit a written entry form. - Formation Team Entry Form Please Note: We will be allowing Formation Teams as small as 4 couples To avoid rule violations, please check with the USA Dance DanceSport Rule Book. Please download the rules at www.usadance.org. You will be required to show the routine to our invigilator on Friday night 11/20/15 and will have 10 minutes to do this. If additional time is needed you will have time early Saturday morning prior to the start of the event. You will not be allowed to compete unless we see the routine. Couples competing in events other than the Formation Team, must register for those events separately and pay online for their individual events.

STANDARD OF DRESS FOR FRIDAY & STAURDAY NIGHTS

Standard of Dress for Friday & Saturday Nights

While there is no necessity to dress "formally" you should realize that you will be sitting on OR very close to the competition floor. You may be televised and what you wear will be a reflection on your school and the NCDC. You should at the very least wear "smart casual". This does NOT include blue jeans or shorts. If there is any possibility that you will do any general dancing during the evening, it is extremely important that you are well groomed (even though you'll be squished between the hundreds of others on the floor!) and that you dance with elbows "in" so to speak... Most of the spectators who will be sitting with you (having paid more for their one-night tickets than you have for the entire weekend!) will be dressed formally; again, we don't need to, but we also want to "fit in" with the crowd on the floor if we should choose to dance (there are not many opportunities, mind you). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
